The plan – a day out

We meet up at Borlänge train station and take you to a secret location, a protected forest which is known to be home to wolverines, wolves and other wildlife. We gear up and practice walking on skis a bit before we head out into the wild. We then spend the whole day out tracking wildlife together.

We take a break for a warming blueberry soup and sandwiches, and in the evening we light a camp fire in the wild and end our adventure with a sizzling evening meal in the dark and snowy forest. In the evening we conclude the experience and return to civilisation, the cosy Dala-Floda Inn.

There wont be any trains back to Stockholm that evening so we recommend you to stay at Dala-Floda Inn, where you can have a hot Saturday night drink and sleep well after a long day out in the snow. The next morning you can go for a Sunday walk on the frozen lake, before taking the bus to Borlänge and train to Stockholm or wherever you are heading after.

Guides & Equipment

This is Jens Sarlin, a local guide and tracker who will be leading this trip. He will share hos passion for the forest and teach you how to walk on skis.

This is Marcus Eldh, founder of WildSweden, who will help out with tracking during this day out and make sure no one is cold or left behind.

We provide wooden skis from Tegsnäs that are easy to use and made for walking in forests. You can use any boots with these skis.

What to bring

>> See our general packing list for Winter trips in Central Sweden.

You will also need skis. You can rent wooden skis, poles, and boots from us, or bring your own off-track skis suitable for deep snow. Our rental skis are compatible with any winter boots, so if you have warm and comfortable ones, feel free to bring them. Note that regular cross-country skis designed for prepared tracks (Swedish: spårskidor) won’t work for this terrain.
